Dr. Rachel Clarke
Principal Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Rachel Clarke is a Principal Clinical Psychologist at Maudsley Health, with over a decade of experience in both clinical practice and research. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) in 2019 at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London (KCL), in partnership with the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Dr. Clarke also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (BSc, Hons) from University College London (UCL), awarded in 2012. She is trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and is a qualified practitioner of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).
Dr. Clarke has extensive experience working with diverse populations across the MENA region, including Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Turkey. Her early career included working with children with disabilities, and survivors of war and torture, before returning to the UK to complete her doctorate. Since then, she has worked at the National and Specialist CAMHS DBT Service at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where she spent five years providing specialist care for young people and their families. She has also contributed to specialist adult mental health services, delivering treatment for individuals with complex presentations, including psychosis, personality disorders, and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD). Dr Clarke also ran her own private practice, using models such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and family therapy to support individuals, couples and families with anxiety disorders, depression, relationship difficulties and emotion dysregulation.
Dr. Clarke has also led research on PTSD treatment for both adults and adolescents with complex mental health conditions, including psychosis, emerging traits of Emotionally Unstable/Borderline Personality Disorder (EUPD/BPD), and complex PTSD. Dr Clarke has also provided expert teaching, lecturing and supervision to professional clinical psychologists and was an honorary lecturer to the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme at KCL as well as a research supervisor for Goldsmiths University. Her expertise in these areas continues to inform her clinical work, ensuring a compassionate and evidence-based approach to mental health care.
Dr. Clarke works therapeutically with children, adolescents, and adults within the service. She has an interest in supporting individuals with emotion dysregulation, cPTSD, relationship issues, anxiety and depression. Dr Clarke has some working knowledge of Arabic (Levantine Dialect) and is keen to develop her language skills whilst in the region.
