Tom completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, and the Maudsley Hospital in South London. He is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, UK. Tom also holds a Master’s degree in Clinical and Developmental Psychopathology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands, and a First-Class Honours degree in Psychology (BSc) from the University of Birmingham, UK.
Tom has over a decade of clinical experience across specialist mental health services in the UK, including roles within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, University College London Hospitals, and the private sector. He has worked with individuals across the lifespan, from children to older adults, experiencing both physical and psychological difficulties. Within the NHS, Tom has worked in highly specialist services for adults with eating disorders and appearance-related distress and contributed psychological input to one of the largest obesity and bariatric centres in the UK. He is a registered member of the British Psychological Society’s Cosmetic Surgery Special Interest Group..
Tom specialises in the treatment of eating disorders. He prioritises creating a safe and trusting space that enables people to explore current difficulties and to make progress towards personally meaningful goals. His practice is culturally sensitive, trauma informed and tailored to reflect the unique experiences of each client, whilst referring to a biopsychosocial evidence-base. Tom integrates therapeutic models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Attachment Theory. He has participated in further training in specialized therapies, including the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA). Tom was one of the first psychologists in the UK to achieve SCOPE Certification, which is an internationally recognised standard of supporting people with overweight and obesity. He is experienced supporting individuals and families therapeutically across the spectrum of eating and appearance related distress, and is committed to tackling the negative impact of weight stigma in healthcare.
In addition to his work with eating disorders, Tom supports individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety disorders, depression, low self-esteem, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He has experience helping clients manage body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), appearance-related distress, perfectionism, and identity concerns, as well as bereavement, complicated grief, burnout, and sleep problems. Tom is research active and has published in peer-reviewed journals. He is part of a research team at King’s College London recently awarded a Wellcome Trust grant to explore AI-assisted methods for accelerating the development and scalability of digital interventions to improve cognitive health.
Tom has also held lead responsibilities in safeguarding and information governance within a large UK national digital therapy service. He is certified at Level 5 in Safeguarding Adults and Children.
