Mental Health & Wellbeing Support

for Schools

Specialist mental health support for students, families and school communities

Maudsley Health works in partnership with schools across the UAE to support the mental health, emotional wellbeing and development of children and young people.

Our multidisciplinary team provides specialist clinical services alongside school-based consultation, professional development, workshops and whole-school mental health support.

By bringing together expertise in child and adolescent mental health, psychology, neurodevelopment, therapy and education, we help schools identify concerns earlier, respond appropriately and create environments in which students can thrive.

How We Support Schools

Every school community is different. Our services can therefore be tailored to the needs of the school, its students, families and staff.

We can work with schools through individual services or develop a broader programme of support across the academic year.

  • Whole-School Mental Health & Wellbeing Support

We work collaboratively with school leadership, wellbeing, pastoral and inclusion teams to strengthen approaches to student mental health and wellbeing.

Support may include mental health awareness, development of school approaches and pathways, early identification, risk management, crisis and safety planning, and initiatives designed around the needs of the individual school community.

  • Consultation for School Teams

Our clinicians can provide professional consultation to school staff where there are concerns about a student's emotional, behavioural, developmental or mental health needs.

Consultation can help staff better understand the student's presentation, consider appropriate strategies and determine whether further specialist assessment or intervention may be beneficial.

    Consultations can be provided to:

    • Leadership and senior leadership teams
    • Inclusion and SEND teams
    • School counsellors and psychologists
    • Pastoral and safeguarding teams
    • Teachers and learning support staff

Training & Professional Development for School Staff

We provide CPD, workshops and specialist mental health training for schools, tailored to the needs of different staff groups.

Sessions can be delivered as individual workshops or as part of a structured professional development programme across the academic year.

Areas of training can include:

  • Understanding Mental Health in Children & Adolescents

Helping staff recognise common presentations and understand when additional support may be required.

  • Neurodevelopmental Needs

Building understanding of ADHD, autism and other developmental differences and how these may present within the school environment.

  • Positive Behaviour Support

Supporting staff to understand behaviour in context and respond using practical, evidence-informed approaches.

  • De-escalation & Crisis Management

Developing staff confidence in recognising escalating situations and responding safely and appropriately.

  • Risk Management & Safety Planning

Supporting appropriate responses when there are concerns regarding a young person's safety or mental health.

  • Staff Wellbeing & Self-Care

Helping school staff understand and manage the emotional demands associated with supporting children and young people.

Bespoke training can also be developed around the priorities of an individual school.

Student Workshops & Group Programmes

Age-appropriate workshops and group sessions can be delivered to support students' understanding of mental health and develop practical skills for managing everyday challenges.

Topics can include emotional wellbeing, managing stress and anxiety, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, resilience, transitions and understanding when and how to seek help.

Programmes can be adapted according to the age, developmental stage and needs of students.

Parent Workshops & Support

Parents and caregivers are an important part of a child's support network.

Maudsley Health can provide educational sessions and workshops that help families better understand children's mental health, behaviour and development.

Topics may include:

  • Understanding anxiety in children and teenagers
  • Supporting emotional regulation
  • ADHD and autism
  • Managing challenging behaviour
  • Supporting children through transitions
  • Adolescent mental health and wellbeing
  • Healthy routines, sleep and technology
  • Recognising when a child may need professional support

Sessions can be tailored to issues or concerns identified within the school community.

Where there are concerns, our team can help determine the most appropriate pathway for assessment and support.

A Tiered Approach to School Support

Maudsley Health can work with schools at different levels depending on the support required.

  • Tier 1 — Whole-School Support

A preventative approach designed to strengthen mental health knowledge and capability across the wider school community.

This can include staff training, workshops, mental health and neurodevelopmental psychoeducation, staff CPD, parent and student workshops, leadership support, risk and safety planning, and structured training programmes delivered throughout the academic year.

  • Tier 2 — Targeted Consultation & Support

More focused support for particular teams, groups or areas of need.

This can include consultation with leadership, inclusion, pastoral or teaching teams; CPD for staff; small-group student work; parent sessions; and collaborative discussions around individual students.

  • Tier 3 — Specialist Clinical Services

When an individual student requires specialist assessment or treatment, they can be referred to Maudsley Health for appropriate clinical care.

This creates a pathway from early identification and school-based support through to specialist mental healthcare when required.
