Dr. Basma Hussein

Dr. Basma Hussein is a specialist psychiatrist based at Maudsley Health-Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, Dubai.

Her areas of interest include managing difficulties related to neurodiversity and addressing complex cases where mental illness is comorbid with physical health conditions.

Dr. Basma Hussein is a triple board-certified psychiatrist (RCPsych, Arab Board, and Emirati Board). She is committed to delivering holistic, evidence-based care, integrating pharmacological treatment, nutrition, supplementation, and psychotherapy, supported by certification in integrated psychiatry.

Her experience across emergency medicine departments, tertiary psychiatric hospitals, general secondary hospitals, and private inpatient facilities has enabled her to develop a broad and adaptable skill set. She is experienced in managing patients from the age of 13 onwards, including those with complex comorbid physical illnesses, intellectual disabilities, dementias, and addiction. She has a particular interest in supporting individuals with neurodiversity and in developing environments that accommodate their specific needs.

Dr. Basma Hussein believes that high-quality care requires both extensive clinical experience and strong formal education. She holds certifications in multiple psychotherapeutic approaches, including motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, management of borderline personality disorder, and grief therapy. Additionally, she is certified in advanced supplement prescribing to support the management of both physical and mental health conditions through nutrition and targeted supplementation.

Beyond clinical practice, she is actively engaged in service improvement, professional and public education, and reducing mental health stigma. To support these efforts, she has obtained certification in clinical auditing, a professional diploma in medical errors and the law, and is an NIHS-certified case writer and item creator
