Assistant Psychologist and Research Coordinator

Jawahr Al Shamsi earned a B.Sc. degree in Psychology with a Minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Zayed University. Her academic work included a correlational study, which examined the influence of social media on body image concerns. She was also involved in research that focused on identifying factors that contribute to the development of obesity within the UAE. Jawahr is also an alumni of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program.

Jawahr completed her internship at Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination where she assisted with teaching activities and provided in-classroom support to the attendees. With her background in education, Jawahr went on to work as a Teaching Assistant at New York University, Abu Dhabi, where she provided pastoral care to students and assisted them with their preparations for graduate school.

Jawahr has also held the position of Learning Assistant at a kindergarten for pupils with autism and ADHD, where she provided individualized support to pupils and their families and facilitated workshops and support groups for parents. In this role, she also worked to implement behavioral and safeguarding policies.

Jawahr is currently a DOH-licensed Assistant Psychologist and Research Coordinator at Maudsley Health, where she supports the clinical team by assisting with psychological assessments and with various day-to-day clinical tasks. She works closely with children and adolescents, gaining hands-on experience in clinical settings, which has enriched her understanding of diverse mental health needs. Her goal is to pursue postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology and work towards bridging cultural gaps in the provision of mental health care.
