Dr. Gemma Brisco is a Senior Clinical Psychologist working within Forensic services at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital. She obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsychD) at the University of Surrey, UK, in 2017. She completed a Post Graduate Certificate (PGCert) in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions at Exeter University in 2012 and a Bachelor of Science with Honors (BSc Hons) degree in Human Psychology with Professional Training from Aston University, UK, in 2008. She is a licensed practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) of the UK, and a licensed Clinical Psychologist with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Dubai.
Dr Brisco has worked in the National Health Service, UK for over ten years and prior to this has worked in research, educational, prison and private healthcare settings in the UK. Prior to joining Maudsley Health, Dr Brisco spent seven years working within Broadmoor Hospital, a high secure hospital in the UK. She has also worked within the HMP estate in the UK in both maximum security and category B establishments.
Dr Brisco is skilled in assessing a wide range of mental health difficulties and developing an understanding of how these difficulties have contributed to someone’s risk of offending. She uses a range of evidence-based risk assessments and measures to conduct these assessments. She uses an integrative approach utilising a range of psychological therapies to inform treatment including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) whilst also drawing upon Dialectal Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Systemic approaches.
