Dr. Ninar Itani is a Clinical Psychologist at Maudsley Health. She is a Ph.D. graduate in the Department of Clinical Psychology at Walden University in the United States. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the American University of Beirut and her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from McGill University, in Canada. Her MSc in Applied Psychology is from Walden University, USA.
Dr. Ninar has approaching twenty years’ experience working with children and young people, and has held related positions internationally in the public and private health sector including here in Dubai in UAE, Beirut in Lebanon and Montreal in Canada.
Dr. Ninar initially trained as an Educational Psychologist. As an active member of a multidisciplinary team, she supported her patients by designing individualised educational programs for children with additional learning needs. She provided therapy to children with learning difficulties, behavioural concerns and developmental delays.
Dr. Ninar provided assessment, and intervention, to vulnerable children, young people, and their families in her role at the Ministry of Health and Social Services, for the Department of Youth Protection in Montreal, Canada. She offered ongoing practical and psycho-social support, utilising Trauma Informed Care and Attachment Therapy. Dr. Ninar also successfully launched and led the “My Family, My Community” program. The project was focused on the implementation of solutions designed to maintain children within their communities.
Dr.Ninar has practiced in various inpatient and outpatient settings, successfully providing assessment and treatment to children and young people experiencing a range of mental illnesses including Anxiety Disorders, Depression, ADHD, ASD, Anger Management, Trauma related disorders, Personality Disorder, Learning/Intellectual Disabilities and Schizophrenia.
In her clinical practice Dr.Ninar has expertise in delivering a variety of evidence-based interventions and uses an integrative clinical approach tailored to the patient’s needs. She incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma Focused CBT, Play Therapy, Culturally Sensitive CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and parenting work.
Dr. Ninar is passionate about early intervention, the promotion of mental wellbeing and building resilience in society, which is demonstrable from her extensive volunteer and humanitarian work with reputable charitable organisations internationally, including War Child, the Red Cross, and the UN.
